The former Wales rugby union captain Gareth Thomas watched a thrilling match as Crusaders gave St Helens a fright at the GPW Recruitment Stadium.Thomas – who will make his debut for Crusaders in next Friday's home match against the Catalans Dragons – watched as his new team were outscored by six tries to five in a 37-30 Saints victory."Gareth will be ready for next week," said Brian Noble, the Crusaders' coach. "He has practised really well but it's been a bit strange when you are having to teach how to carry out the play-the-ball. But he's an absolutely quality player and a quality person."Noble took heart from his side's second-half display as they scored four tries. After Vince Mellars went over in the first half, Jamie Thackray, Gareth Raynor, Michael Witt and Anthony Blackwood touched down in the second. |
